PostHeaderIcon This Old Lady Would Like a Spot of Tea

brabourne

I’m getting old. I’m not quite sure when it happened but late nights in loud clubs and crowded bars have lost all their appeal. These days, I’d much rather go out for afternoon tea. That way I can be home and tucked in in time for the Golden Girls reruns. Kidding. (Only about the Golden Girls though.) I prefer a full high tea, English cream tea, Devonshire tea, or Cornish cream tea, but I’m happy with any variation.

I love everything surrounding this ritual. The pretty china, tiny, delicious bites, and just taking time to slow down and savor everything.

Obviously most of us don’t have time for this kind of thing everyday. If I’m home in the afternoon, I’ll sometimes have a cup of tea along with a biscuit or cookie and I may have it in one of the pretty cups that my mother gave me but that’s about the extent of it.

But if there is a special occasion or if I’m traveling that’s when I like to take time out and really indulge. Hotels tend to offer the best afternoon tea so it’s usually just a matter of heading downstairs from your room.

And of course, a beautifully appointed hotel makes the perfect setting for a great tea experience.

See? I told you. Old. Now would one of you young ‘uns put the kettle on? Your grandmother and I would like a cup.

PostHeaderIcon Caption This: Green House

green house 3

When I first saw this $513,000 house in the Maryland real estate listings, I did a double-take. Were those plants growing along the walls? Yep. They’re plants all right. Here’s a closer look at them in the family room:

The homeowner clearly put a lot of time and effort into training the greenery so it would stretch around entire rooms . . . and even up the stairs:

Check out the stairs themselves, which have actually been carpeted in two different colors to match the peach and tan paint in the house. I’ve never seen that before.

And, oh, yeah, more greenery, which creates a kind of tunnel so you can get to the dining room (might not be a bad idea to carry some pruning shears with you from room to room, just in case):

I guess the plants come with the house, since they appear to be one with it now. How would you caption this? And why can’t I get this song out of my head? (Thanks to Julie who sent me the listing!)

house with no front door

Areader named Stephanie sent me this listing from Georgia. She says she stared at it for awhile, trying to figure out why it didn’t look quite right, and then realized the problem: No front door! Where is it? According to the listing, it has an attached garage, so maybe they just go in and out that way?

Have you seen a house without a front door before?
