PostHeaderIcon Calling All Princesses…Chateau LeMoine is For Sale

Renovated Chateau

Have you ever wished you could live inside a Disney cartoon? Do you frequently burst into song while happy woodland creatures frolic at your feet? Then this is your chance to live in a “castle” fit for an animated princess. The Chateau LeMoine, on the market in L.A. for $2.67 million, boasts a Juliet balcony, a turret, a gatehouse, and even a moat.

According to an article in the Larchmont Chronicle, “The Chateau LeMoine, located in Brookside, was built for love, a birthday gift from French architect Earl LeMoine to his wife in 1926. She fell in love with the land and its pretty little brook, and several years later, the architect surprised her with a chateau resembling those in their native south of France.”

When the current owners bought it, the Chateau had fallen into disrepair. A lot of work went into renovating the house, inside and out.

Huffington Post says, “This conspicuous French chateau-style home in Hancock Park has acquired a Kinkade-esque sheen on the real estate listing thanks to Photoshop, possibly to attract any Lisa Frank fans?”

PostHeaderIcon Billy Joel’s West Village Townhouse for Sale

Billy Joel todayOne of the first celebrity houses I featured when I started this blog was Billy Joel’s beach house in the Hamptons. He was a newlywed at the time, having just married 23-year old Katie Lee, and insisted in interviews that he would have fallen for her even if she were 30 years older than he was. (Really? Because it’s hard to imagine he’d find her as attractive as an 85-year old…)

But I digress. Here’s a photo of the great room in their beach house that I showed you then:

Billy Joel's Hamptons Beach House

He and Katie had just gone on Oprah to discuss their marriage and his trip to rehab (April 2008). On that show, Katie gave us a tour of their fab West Village townhouse in New York, decorated by Nate Berkus.

Now that the couple has split, the townhouse is on the market for $12.9 million.

Katie showed off her favorite meatloaf recipe for Oprah viewers in the dining room:

Here’s how the dining room looks in the listing today:

Because cooking is Katie’s thing (she wrote a cookbook and hosted the first season of “Top Chef” on Bravo), there is a “chef’s kitchen” that includes a 6-burner Wolf stove:

You can watch the video tour on Oprah.com. For more information, check out the listing. More photos and info on the rumors that LeBron James might be buying it on Huffington Post.

PostHeaderIcon Jane Fonda’s Loft For Sale in Atlanta

Jane FondaJane Fonda recently announced on her blog that she is leaving Atlanta after 19 years and moving back to L.A. She says, “It has been my home and I have been very happy here. I came here with Ted Turner and when we separated, I stayed. Its been 10 years since then. I built myself a loft that I truly thought would be my home till I died. I love it so.”

Jane Fonda's Atlanta Loft 1She says the decision to move to L.A. was difficult but necessary: “I decided it was time to be an actor again.” She already has several new movies coming out this year, and more in the works.

Jane Fonda's Atlanta Loft 2Fonda has been dating music producer Richard Perry, who also lives in L.A., and she cites him as one of her reasons for moving.

I love this fireplace wall with the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves:

Remember the fab house Fonda had as the wickedly hilarious Viola in Monster-in-Law? There was a lot of white in that decor, too, and it seemed to suit her. (You can see those pics here.)

All photos by Nathan Martin. You can see the rest, including her bedroom with the glass fireplace in it, here. The property is being handled by Atlanta Fine Homes Sothebys International Realty–contact info here.

PostHeaderIcon For Sale: The London House from “The Parent Trap” Movie

parent-trap-DVD-coverWho could forget the fabulous London house featured in the 1998 version of Disneys The Parent Trap? That was where the twins’ mother Elizabeth (Natasha Richardson) lived with Annie (Lindsay Lohan). It was built in the 1840s in the heart of central London. Here’s how it looked in the movie:

Now it’s for sale for 14 million. Here’s how it looks today:

The Real Parent Trap house-London

The interior for the movie was created on a soundstage and looked like this:

You can see more photos from the house in the movie in this post.

PostHeaderIcon For Sale: Daryl Hall’s Revolutionary War-Era Colonial

Daryl Hall-Revolutionary War-era house NY

When I heard that Daryl Hall–the taller, blonder half of the popular “rock and soul” duo Hall & Oates–was selling his house in Amenia, New York, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Whatever I imagined–something with a retro-’80s vibe, maybe?–it wasn’t this. It’s a Revolutionary War-era Georgian Colonial that he restored with meticulous attention to historical detail.

Daryl Hall

The house sits on 245 sprawling acres and has 9 fireplaces, “numerous parlors,” a country kitchen, paneled keeping room, and original tavern room. The restoration, the listing says, has “museum-quality detailings.”

Daryl Hall house 3It may be a little too historically accurate for me personally to want to live in, but I’m in awe of all the work that went into it. There were actually two old homes from the 1700s that Hall used to create one large one. You can read the details about their history and how they’re connected in the listing.

Daryl Hall-fireplace

This property is on the market for $16 million. Hall loves living in old houses and preserving them. He also restored a Georgian-style home in London, and he owns the oldest house in the state of Maine, built in 1662.

Did you know that he produces monthly Internet webcasts that feature various musicians performing here in this house? Visit Live From Daryl’s House to watch one.

According to the listing, the estate boasts “four guest houses, an engineered recording studio, gardens, mature groomed and natural woods, a spruce grove, meadows, farm roads, stone walls and walks, terraces, old apple orchards, a neolithic fire pit (created and installed by internationally respected British landscape designer Keir Davidson), and a pond.”

Oh, and did I mention the indoor pool?

What do you think? Would you like to live here? Or are you thinking, I Can’t Go for That? (Hey, just be glad I didn’t wedge any references to “Private Eyes” or “Maneater” into the post, too…)
