I Now Have Five Chairs to Redo. Five. I Must Be Stopped.

A few weeks ago, I found this Milo Baughman chrome frame chair at an antique shop (I think its name is Antique Factory – in Chamblee).They were 100 smackers andthat was a deal I just couldn’t pass up.

Then I saw this Manuel Canovas fabric which I had never seen before and it was love at first sight. It’s called Atlantis. Here’s a closer look so you can see the beautiful texture:

I think it would look amazing on the chrome frame, don’t you? It also comes in this lovely shade of lavender and you know how I’m feeling about lavender these days:

And remember these chairs?

They’re still waiting to be reupholstered and I think that fabric would look great on these too.

And if you follow me on Facebook (which I hope you do!), you saw that yesterday I bought these:

It’s hard to tell from the photo but they’re black velvet with brass frames. They were from an antique store calledDecatur Estate and I have to thankSherry because she was the one who found them and showed them to me then even drove me over there to get them!

I have no need for them and have no idea where I’m going to put them but I couldn’t resist, especially with everyone’s encouragement! (There were like 20 comments on Facebook, I couldn’t believe it!) I do have about a hundred ideas of how to re-do them though. And before you even ask, no I will not be doing any of this myself!

Finally, remember I was on the hunt for a fiddle leaf fig tree? A lot of people suggested Home Depot. They didn’t have any when I went last month but I popped in there to get some other stuff yesterday and they had these smaller ones for only $10 each. I’m told they grow very fast so I hope to have tall trees in no time. If I don’t kill them first, that is.

So I’d say it’s been a productive couple of weeks in the shopping department!

Musical Rugs

Rugs are one of the things that gets moved around the most in our house. I just can’t decide which ones should go where. The rug that has stumped me the most is a large floral Aubusson type of rug that my parents gave us in their “Great Downsizing of 2010.” It looks a lot like this one in color and pattern:

(This is Kate and Andy Spade’s apartment which I love to pieces but had refrained from posting because it’s been all over the blogosphere.)

So my rug has been in the living room, the dining room, back in the living room, the bedroom and is now in the dining room again. I’m just not feeling it in there mainly because it’s pretty traditional and the dining room furniture (also received as part of the Great Downsizing) is also very traditional.

Looking at this room makes me think maybe I should try it again in the living room which is mostly gray, white, cream and black. Of course I can’t remember what I didn’t like about it there when it was there the previous two times(!) How bad is that? Please tell me I’m not the only who’s moved something around so much that they’ve lost track!

Christmas Details Around Our House

To those of you who host Christmas every year, how do you do it? I’ve been going non-stop all week and I’m worn out! But the house is decorated, the gifts are wrapped, and the fridge is stocked.

Here are some glimpses around the house. I bought these white paper stars on my last trip to India (I wish I had bought more! Note to myself for next time.)

These are party favors I put together with tiny boxes from Michael’s. (There are Swiss chocolates inside.)

And around our house, even the Christmas decorations get tweaked. Remember the foyer from last week?

It got a little sprucing up with a sequin pillow and branches with glass ornaments.

I’m off to finish the guest room and start cooking for tonight. Have a wonderful Christmas eve! I’ll see you tomorrow with a special Saturday Christmas post!

Design Notes from Singapore

Here is a bit more design inspiration for you from my trip. You all know how much I love a good hotel. Well, so many stylish new hotels have opened in Singapore in recent years, I just had to set aside some time to visit a few of them.

We didn’t stay at the Saff or Klapsons but design-wise, I loved them. The Saff looked like it was just completing renovations and looked great.I blogged about Klapsons a while back and I have to say it looks even better in person. The G Hotel, which is near the Saff, also looked pretty stylish. Both are housed in charming old colonial houses.

We ended up staying at the Four Seasons at the beginning of our trip. It had nice rooms and great service – what you’d expect from a Four Seasons. We also had to overnight in Singapore for a night after Malaysia so we tried out the brand new Marina Bay Sands.

The hotel was fine – the complex is HUGE – but the reason to stay there is definitely the infinity pool. It’s on the top of the complex (57 floors up), overlooking the whole city. Absolutely amazing.

Will I Go Straight to Hell If I Paint My Brick Fireplace?

Because I don’t have enough projects going on right now (yes, I’m being sarcastic) I’ve been toying with the idea of painting the brick fireplace in our basement. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I think it’s really nice, actually. But I’ve always loved the look of white painted brick.

Here’s a picture of the fireplace in question. The photo was taken just before we moved in. The walls have since been painted white and I’m planning to go with a black and white palette in the room (when I eventually get there).

Thoughts?

Still Searching for a Worn Leather Chair

I’m still on the hunt for a worn leather chair. I originally wanted one for the family room but we put the Bergre chair in there and I think it’s perfect for the space. But I’d still love a leather chair.

In the basement, we have what some people would call a media room; I just call it our hangout room. (The whole basement is a disaster so it’ll be a while before I can you show you any of it.)

There’s a slip covered couch and a big teak coffee table there now and I think a leather chair would make a great complement.

Don’t you love how I can create a need where there really isn’t one? It’s a gift.
